Community Steps In To Save Ice Cream Shop With Special Needs Workers

  1. Anonymous donors saved the day for a very special ice cream shop in Dallas. Howdy Homemade Ice Cream employs people with special needs and provides them with an opportunity to earn a living. But the pandemic forced them to close their doors for two months and owner Tom Landis wasn’t sure he would be able to reopen, after mortgaging his house and depleting his savings.
  2. The community didn’t want to lose this beloved small business, so they rallied to keep them going. Donations poured in and in just 10 days, more than $120-thousand was raised for Howdy Homemade. Now they’re set to reopen in a new location and will be back to serving up scoops.

“We should be in the graveyard,” Landis explains. “And man … Dallas saved us.”
